A trubute to ten Bahá'í women executed in Shiraz on 18 June 1983
Few incidents are more shocking — or revealing of the religious basis of the persecution against Bahá'ís and the courage with which they faced it — than the group hanging of ten Bahá'í women in Shiraz on 18 June 1983. Their crime: teaching religious classes to Bahá'í youth — the equivalent of being "Sunday school" teachers in the West. Ranging in age from 17 to 57, the ten Bahá'í women were led to the gallows in succession. Authorities apparently hoped that as each saw the others slowly strangle to death, they would renounce their own faith. But according to eyewitness reports, the women went to their fate singing and chanting, as though they were enjoying a pleasant outing. One of the men attending the gallows confided to a Bahá'í: "We tried saving their lives up to the last moment, but one by one, first the older ladies, then the young girls, were hanged while the others were forced to watch, it being hoped that this might induce them to recant their belief. We even urged them to say they were not Bahá'ís, but not one of them agreed; they preferred the execution." All of the women had been interrogated and tortured in the months leading up to their execution. Indeed, some had wounds still visible on their bodies as they lay in the morgue after their execution. The youngest of these martyrs was Muna Mahmudnizhad, a 17-year-old schoolgirl who because of her youth and conspicuous innocence became, in a sense, a symbol of the group. In prison, she was lashed on the soles of ...

Haifa street scene on a Friday morning
Haifa street scene on a Friday morning
I recently took a trip with a friend up North to Haifa and Acco (Acre). Our weekend is Fri-Sat instead of Sat-Sun and most shops close on Friday at 1pm in the winter or about 3pm in the summer, so Friday morning is the busiest time of the week for shopping. Haifa is a bustling city with an ethnically and religiously diverse diverse population. The shopping streets in Haifa were lovely. Lots of people, lots of characters, buskers on nearly every street corner. The city is built on the side of a hill, overlooking a large bay. Things to see in Haifa: the Bahai Gardens, the Maritime Museum, several old churches, monasteries and convents (this is where the Carmelite order was founded, for instance). Israel's only subway is in Haifa, and there's a gondola style cable car that goes to the top of the mountain, too! Haifa is also home to the University of Haifa and the Technion.

Israel Culture & History Tour - Day 10
Israel Culture & History Tour - Day 10
Day 10 Start the day by driving along Israel's northern road all the way to Rosh Hanikra on the Mediterranean. Here the rocky cliffs descend steeply into the sea, allowing the waves to carve grottos of a thousand shapes. Take the cable car down to the grottos for a short stroll through the rocky passageways. Drive south to Acre, a historic walled port-city with continuous settlement beginning in the Phoenician period. The remains of the Crusader town, dating from 1104 to 1291, lie almost intact both above and below today's street level. The remains provide an exceptional picture of the layout and structures of the capital of the medieval Crusader kingdom, along with touches of the Ottoman period during the 18th and 19th centuries, when Acre was a fortified market town. Explore the Knights Halls, the Al-Jazaar Mosque, the bathhouse with its multi-media display, and the new ethnic museum, built right into the rooms of the old wall. Continue to the modern port city of Haifa; visit the picturesque restored Templer Colony and the gorgeous terraced Bahai Gardens, and enjoy the view from the top of Mount Carmel. Overnight: Haifa For additional itinerary suggestions, please see: www.goisrael.com

This VIDEO / SONG SOUNDS BEST WHEN VIEWED IN HD (High Definition-the hottest video resolution). We use HD to give you the best Christian music video experience possible. www.BrandtMorain.com A free MP3 of this Christian song is available for free download at our website in the best music format possible (True CD quality -- 320Kbps). YouTube formats do NOT give you the best music video quality. YouTube is not CD quality. Sample audio of our other songs are also available. Band Group Details: Our new Debut CD "Volume One" has had great reviews and articles from Music Review, USA Today, Alternative Press Magazine as well as contributing writers for top publications such as Rolling Stone Magazine. Our album has received substantial Radio Airplay in Phoenix AZ and Albany NY as the official music for two radio talk shows on stations KFNX 100 and Talk 1300 AM, some of the hottest radio stations in their market. Brandt Morain "Volume One" is comprised of multiple genres including 1970-80's style Rock, Country, A Capella, Christian / Religious, a song that makes fun of Rap, Easy Listening and a few recordings that defy categorization. In order to bring you the best Christian music possible, our recording philosophy omits recording industry "innovations" such as Autotune. These devices damage a recording artists performance in our opinion, producing sterile results that have destroyed the quality of some of the best Christian songs and other great music in the industry.
